Ergonomics and You
Since most affiliates — even ones who’ve been in the game for quite some time — cannot afford to lease their own office space during the day, it falls upon the fact that they should instead carve out some kind of office space for themselves in their own home. However, not many affiliates even think to try this — it’s almost as if, once they realize they don’t have enough money to lease out their own office, that’s it — they resign themselves to working from wherever there computer is at home.
But it’s a good idea to carve out some kind of office space for yourself if you can manage it at home. This is mainly due to something called ergonomics, if you’ve ever heard of it.
The definition of ergonomics — in layman’s terms, at least — is the study of efficiency in working environments. With efficiency directly relating to productivity in the way we’re referring to it here in the online marketing industry.
Now while you’re surely not going to have to delve super in-depth into ergonomics, because it can get pretty out-there and wacky at times — it certainly can’t hurt to take a few basic tenants of the philosophy and apply them to your new home office.
Essentially, you’re going to want a spot that has some peace and quiet. Something that is far away from a television or any other major distractions you can think of. It should be near, clean and orderly and have everything you need to complete your tasks thr0ughout the day just an arms-length away. A bulletin board, chalkboard or at the very least somewhere you can stick Post-It notes is also encouraged.
You’ll likely be surprised at just how much more productive you can become by simply cleaning up your working spot and ensuring its well-stocked with things that you need and exists in a nice, peaceful spot in your house. If this is impossible, well than maybe you’ll have to eventually lease out a small office of your own outside-of-the-house, but until then, the study of ergonomics and how it relates to efficiency and productivity should serve you well enough.
