If At First If You Don’t Succeed…

Posted in Affiliate Marketing 101 by Josh Galligan

It’s common knowledge that Affiliate Marketing isn’t for everyone. Surely, everyone thinks it’s specifically for them — the thing they’ve been looking for their entire lives once they discover it, but this usually just isn’t the case.

In order to thrive in the Affiliate Marketing industry, one must not only be an extremely hard-worker, but also be able to adapt to the near-constant changes within the industry. In addition to these two characteristics, one must also be extremely resilient, mainly since failure isn’t just a possibility, it’s a reality. You will run a campaign or three that won’t turn out very well, sometimes even more than this if you’re just getting started in the industry.

Indeed, many new affiliate marketers view the entire thing as a rose garden, expecting the money to flow in and rain forevermore with very little effort. Unfortunately, the exact opposite is usually the case, with money usually taking quite some time to flow in and almost never raining in forevermore without a ton of constant, everyday effort on your part.

That’s why we felt it prudent to discuss failure, especially in relation to just starting out in the industry. If at first if you don’t succeed… try again. And again. And again. Until you do.

This is usually easier said then done however, especially if you’re not particularly used to failing in life. Especially if you’re not used to losing vast quantities of your own money due to your own personal investments. That’s probably the most difficult thing that new affiliates have to deal with.

Thankfully, there’s a plethora of things you can do to increase your chances at success and decrease your chances at failure. But just know before we get into these things that you are going to fail and it is going to suck. It’s inevitable and every great affiliate has dealt with it since the dawn of the industry.

Expect it. Embrace it.

You’re going to need to try and learn everything you can about running campaigns and how to run them successfully. And don’t try and learn from people that obviously have no idea what they’re talking about and are only interested in peddling some inane product of theirs for you to buy. Use common sense and your best judgment when seeking out resources for you to learn from — it will go a long way.

We’ve said this time and time again, but split-testing is of the utmost vital importance if you want to run a successful campaign. Whether you’re trying to make money with affiliate offers via PPC, SEO or even e-mail marketing, split-testing is crucial. It’s vital. It’s damn-near required if you want to have any semblance of a chance at running a successful affiliate marketing campaign.

Lastly, you’re going to need to learn how to do research on varying affiliate offers before you even try and run them. Learn everything you can about all the offers you’re interested in before deciding which to run a campaign with. Ask other affiliates (if you can) which offers they’re finding some success running. And absolutely, positively ask your affiliate manager which offers they suggest for you to run.

Don’t be afraid to ask questions or you’re not going to make it very far in this industry. Don’t be afraid to bust your ass and you’ll soon find yourself making a very comfortable income and maybe even giving other new affiliates advice as to what they should run.
